Mission Jubilee

Elder Nate has been in Chile now for 2 months. We get weekly emails from him. He seems to be doing very well. At first I think it was a bit of an adjustment. His missionary companion doesn't speak any English. Nate says his own Spanish was minimal, even after 4 years of Spanish in High School and 2 months of it at the MTC. (Mission Training Center) We hear it takes a good 6 months of living in a country to really "know" the language. So at first I think he was lonely, but he told us in letters that he was turning to his Heavenly Father and trusting in Him as he struggled to teach and love the people of Chile. Nate has such a strong desire to help them have the happiness that he has in his life. He knows that the only way to this true happiness is by coming unto Christ. We pray everyday for our son and all the missionaries in the world who are doing this amazing work.

Nate's Companion Elder Aguirre on their new stove. They are so excited to now have a way to cook besides the microwave. They do have lunch appointment where the Members feed them nearly everyday. Lunch is the big meal of the day in Chile.

This is the first photo we received of our Elder Jewkes in Chile. The seasons are opposite of what they are here. We got this photo in our heat of August. The elders in coats seemed funny.

When we got this photo of Elder Nate many family members commented that it looked like he was just up the street from us in the Salt Lake Valley. With the mountains behind him and the Ocean near, like our water "The Great Salt Lake" it is said that Santiago, Chile is laid out much like the Salt Lake City Valley. We told Nate of these comments and he said even with those grande mountains to gaze at everyday, he doesn't feel at home, he definitely feels like he is in a foreign country!
